Main Role and Responsibilities
The Photographer/Videographer focuses on capturing the experience of the Youth and Government Weekend through photos and videos. As the visual storyteller you demonstrate the Youth and Government Weekend’s energy, its positive impact, and the accomplishments of participants to students, delegate’s host organizations, families, supporters, and the broader community.
The Photographer/Videographer works with the Media team to create and publish print and digital media, including 3 newspapers (Friday Night, Saturday Night and Sunday Closing editions), Instagram and other social media posts.
Responsibilities include:
- Taking photographs and recording video during Youth and Government Weekend activities including legislative sessions, debates, workshops, leadership activities, and team experiences
- Documenting student participation and achievements to preserve memories and showcase the program
- Creating digital media content for YMCA communications, newsletters, websites, social media, promotional materials, and program reports
- Selecting and editing photos/videos to produce polished highlights or recap materials.
- Capturing interviews and testimonials from students, advisors, volunteers, and staff throughout the Weekend
- Collaborate with the Media team to tell the story of the program and promote future participation
- Follow privacy and consent guidelines, especially when photographing or filming youth participants.

Election/Selection Procedure
Photographer/Videographer is an appointed position, selected by a committee of Advisors and the Youth Governor.
To apply for this position:
- Complete the MEDIA APPLICATION
- Deadline is Tuesday after Ingenious People Day at 5:00 PM
- A committee of Advisors or Youth Governor will select and will announce winners at Caucus B
- If all roles are not filled, an election will be held at Caucus C.
