Since 2023, the Statesman of the Year award has recognized the student who demonstrated outstanding leadership, civic responsibility, and dedication to the Maine YMCA Youth & Government program.

The recipient is a role model who:

• Demonstrates integrity, fairness, and respect for others.
• Participates actively in debate, legislation, and the democratic process.
• Encourages fellow delegates and helps strengthen the program.
• Exemplifies the values of leadership, service, and responsible citizenship.
